In New York City last night Christina Ricci attended the “Time Stands Still” Broadway Opening Night After Party.

We are very used to seeing actress in LBDs, but on this occasion she opted for one with a touch of sparkle.

Her Alberta Ferretti Fall 2009 high-neck dress has an embellished shoulder detail.

The dress is shorter than it appears on the runway.

Judging by the way the dress has changed shape on Christina who has a much smaller frame than the model, this was a great idea.

Had she kept the original length, the dress may have looked a tad matronly on Ricci.

Those YSL Trib Two’s and a black clutch complete the look.

Victoria Beckham has been in New York to present her Fall 2011 collection during Fashion Week.

Her gorgeous husband flew into town to spend Valentine’s day with his pregnant wife.

They shared an intimate dinner at Minetta Tavern in the Big Apple last night.

He looked really dapper wearing a Ralph Lauren Purple Label Fall 2010 two-piece suit with yellow socks, whilst she was glowing wearing a nude silk dress paired with an Alexander McQueen strong-shouldered coat which we’ve seen her wear before.

VB teamed her look with Brian Atwood pumps.

What a very handsome couple they are.

Now this Nanette Lepore Swept Away wrap dress, I really like on Miley Cyrus.

It’s cute, non-provocative, age-appropriate, and something her young fans can realistically inspire to copy.

The Disney star arrived at a taping of the Rachael Ray show last week wearing this navy, white bow, red trimmed dress, with Moschino Cheap and Chic peep-toe strappy heels.

You can buy this dress from Shopbop for $395, or My-Wardrobe.com for £293.

On Rachel Ray, Miley talks about an experience she had at a Chanel store.

“My very first time going into a Chanel store they said ‘hey we have a bunch of people, and we never really ask for autographs, but they would love to have an autograph’…So I’m writing down Chanel, and I’m like oh my gosh this is so cool you know. And the lady looks at me and goes ‘You obviously don’t come in here often.’ And I was like, what do you mean? “You spelled it channel.” And I was like dang it! So I totally spelled Chanel channel, instead. But, whatever I’m from Tennessee I don’t know how to spell half the things.”

Dang it, those stores can be so mean sometimes. You can check out Miley full interview at TV Crunch.

Fur back in fashion Harmony & Lawson

Fur is back in fashion.

The number of luxury labels across the world using faux and real fur to create their autumn/winter collections is huge and now a Perth fashion label’s real fur creations are flying off the racks.

Chanel sent models wearing full fur body suits down the catwalk, evoking images of woolly mammoths in ancient times, during their recent fall/winter show. Though the luxe label chose to use fake fur rather than the real thing.

Roberto Cavalli’s line of pelts, vests, scarves and dresses featuring fur have sent animal rights activisits aflutter, Gucci, Fendi and plenty more have favoured fur as both embellishment and the foundation of a range of pieces.

Now a Perth label Harmony & Lawson is creating garments made only of real fur, and finding the furry designs are much more popular than ever expected.

Designer Harmony Douglas said her rabbit and raccoon fur creations have proved extremely popular since she launched the label in December.

A creation by Chanel, part of the fall/winter 2011 collection.

A creation by Chanel, part of the fall/winter 2011 collection.

“The market is crying out for it,” she said.

“We are just being inundated with sales.”

No longer are Anna Wintour and J.Lo amongst a tiny minority of fashion followers who wear the real thing.

Singer Kelly Rowland purchased a fur vest from the label during her recent visit to Perth, and models including Skye Stracke had purchased the product too. Douglas said she had customers from all over the world.

But the controversy surrounding the use of fur continues. Even those designers that do use fur, refuse to comment on their use of it.

Lisa Ho’s latest winter collection features what has been said to be rabbit fur. But ask her PR team for a comment on her use of the material and you get a quick “Lisa Ho doesn’t comment on fur” response.

But Douglas says very few people voiced concerns to her about the possibility of cruelty, though she realised that for some people fur would always remain taboo.

She sourced her furs overseas, and said government regulations meant the product was farmed like other meat products. All parts of the animals were used. The fur was certified cruelty free.

It was the luxury feel of garments made from fur that was making them popular once again, Douglas said.

“It’s the luxury of it, it’s so soft, and my garments are light weight,” she said.

But not everyone in the fashion industry believes the use of real fur can be justified.

While people presume Australian luxe label Aurelio Costarella uses the material to create some of the couture looks they send down the catwalk, the designer has signed the PETA agreement against the use of fur and will never use the real thing.

“We believe you don’t need to use fur as there are so many other great materials and fabrications to utilise,” Costarella brand manager Paul O’Connor said.

At the end of the day it’s about using your creativity to make a luxury product and one that is desirable to all.”

there is NO need for this barbaric cruelty.
with live with heating and comfort in 2010,we DONT NEED real fur.
WE should ban all designers that use it also.

if you think fur is super stylin’,
take an hour to watch “earthlings” on google video.
fur ain’t so pretty when you see it coming straight off a live wild animal,
      that’s for sure.

I’m not saying it’s right – but what’s the difference between wearing fur, leather or suede, and indeed chowing down on a big juicy burger. So unless you wear pleather and don’t eat meat, fish or eggs – can you really cast that stone?

Cruelty-free? So it was moulted fur collected from the forest floor?
Comparing the method of fur farming to that used to obtain meat is hardly a viable argument to suggest this is a human trade, ever heard of factory farming anyone? Much like leather these products are not by-products, they specifically come from animals bred and kept in barbaric conditions so that someone hideous can attempt to increase their own physical beauty by stealing it from another being. But I guess if its regulated by the Government we can all relax, I mean when did a government ever support anything cruel or inhumane?
Of course there is a market for fur, because there will always be vain, repulsive people looking to cover themselves up. There is a market for crack too but that doesn’t make it right.
Fur is worn by beautiful animals and ugly people!

Live wild animals? What has that got to do with Australian fashion? Do you really think that’s how Australians get their fur?
Barbaric? I eat meat, give bones to my dog, the skin is coming off one way or another we might as well use it.
No one complains about Ugg boots, is it because Australians didn’t come up with the idea that makes it so barbaric?
Killing animals is a what we do, they’d wear us if they didn’t have such soft comfortable fur already! Lucky little buggers.

Harmony sounds like a self centred unoriginal fashion victim like her alleged clientele. Which market is crying out for it – who needs fur in Australia, let alone WA? We are not Europe, we should encourage our own fashion identity. Additionally, just because you percieve a demand doesn’t mean you should supply it and deny the ethics. Cruelty free fur, who did her market research – Sam Kekovich? Sourcing fur overseas, then you are probably exploiting very lax regulations to fatten up your wallet.
If people want to look like gorillas then we should encourage use of alternate local materials.

It makes me sad that designers still feel the need to use real fur. The faux fur options out there are much better than they used to be. The fact that so many of them won’t comment on their use of fur in collections shows that indeed they know it’s wrong, but they do it anyway for a buck.

So it is OK for feral foxes to eat my chooks, native animals, birds, reptiles and my newborn lambs, but it is not OK for me to humanely kill feral foxes and have their skins made into warm clothing that conserves fossil fuel, conserves wildlife and recycles a naturally produced and renewable material? Would you rather I subsidised the petrochemical industry by wearing nylon and other synthetics? Think again, animal lovers.

Beating and skinning animals alive isn’t cruelty free, especially products purchased overseas. No, all the animal isn’t used.

Designs who use murdered animals and then refuse to comment on it are cowards. Face up to your responsibility. If you are unable to stand in front of people and discuss what you are doing, then don’t do it.

There is no reason, no excuse and no logic for what you doing when using animals products, especially for fashion.

Thanks Fairfax for highlighting companies to me to avoid.

Prada Fall 2010 Ad Campaign

16 May 2012 In: fashion

Models are multi-tasking these days.

Angela Lindvall appears in the ad teaser for Prada’s Fall 2010 singing “Fever”.

She actually has quite a nice voice.

The full campaign below features Mathias Bergh, Sigrid, Valerija Kelava, Daria Strokous, Clément Chabernaud, Kim Dall’armi, Mark Cox and Miranda Kerr alongside Anglea.

The steamy campaign featuring clothes, bags and eyewear was shot by Steven Meisel.

I do like the ads, but there is a lot going on in some of the shots making it hard to focus or pay attention on one thing.

I found my self playing “Where’s Miranda?”

Jamie-Lynn Sigler glowed in her shimmering Donna Karan plunging gown.

Sandra Oh was in my top 5 Best Dressed of the night wearing a gold embroidered Marchesa strapless gown.

This has to be one of her best ever looks on the red carpet.

Jeanne Tripplehorn wore a custom-made Naeem Khan rose gold pebble sequin cap sleeve dress with ruched front pegged skirt.

Her look was paired with gold Louboutin heels.

Eva La Rue makes up for her ALMA’s disaster by wearing a gold silk Ysa Makino gown, with a pleated front and a chunky crystal neckline.

Sidewalk Style 2010 – Kylie Minogue

15 May 2012 In: fashion

Kylie Minogue no doubt possessed the best sidewalk style in 2010.

She left her home in London daily dressed in designer clothes, but her choices were practical and never over the top.

Unlike Victoria Beckham she didn’t wear restrictive pencil dresses and unlike Rihanna she didn’t wear looks that were more suitable for a nightclub.

My favourites were her Alexander McQueen animal print coat, her Dolce & Gabbana chic coat, her Richard Nicoll face print dress and her Topshop white dress paired with a Topshop cropped jacket and Zanotti heels.

British musician Corinne Bailey Rae also attended the InStyle Best of British Talent BAFTA party which was held at Shoreditch House in London last night.

Like Thandie she also opted for a British designer.

She wore a black Alexander McQueen long sleeve satin dress.

Her dress has an exquisite embroidered detail on the neckline which gives it a regal feel.

It would’ve been nice had Corinne worn her hair back to fully show off this detail, but this hairstyle is very much her trademark look.

The rest of her look was kept simple because nothing should upstage this dress.

Black ankle strap pumps completed her look.

Erik Stehmann

Erik Stehmann intends to make design more playful and dynamic. The designer likes to surprise spectators and cause a smile, “because we already have so little room for lightness and giddiness, nowadays.”

Tube Chair
After his research for Balloon animals, and the knotting of them, Erik Stehmann started exploring several possibilities to eternalize the shapes. It resulted in the Tube Chair, which combines some of the details he bumped into during the research, as well as the freedom to bend a shape by hand.

The use of old news also illustrates the drive for more lightness and giddiness. He starts off each morning making one puppy, with that day’s newspaper.

Material Rings
These rings are the result of some small material and form experiments. He tried to capture a sort of tension in all of the designs, working with playful materials such as aluminum foil, balloons and rubber bands.

Janet Jackson was a guest on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” show last night to talk about her role in Tyler Perry’s forthcoming movie “Why Did I Get Married Too.”

She also discussed her forthcoming self-help book “True You” on weight loss issues and self-esteem, which draws upon her life experiences.

The singer wore a grey Donna Karan Spring 2010 ensemble which included linen belted crushed jacket paired with a grey double layered skirt.

Her all grey look was completed with a pair of Christian Louboutin Watersnake Bianca heels.

It’s unfortunate that her skirt is slightly uneven as she just stood up, but I really like this look on Janet.

She tends to wear figure hugging and dark looks too often so this is really refreshing.
